Fibroid Removal

What is Fibroid Removal (Myomectomy)?

Removal of fibroids, known as myomectomy, is a surgical procedure aimed at removing non-cancerous growths called fibroids from the uterus while preserving the uterus itself. Myomectomy can be performed through various techniques, including open surgery (laparotomy), laparoscopic myomectomy, or hysteroscopic myomectomy.

When do you need a myomectomy?

You may need to undergo a myomectomy if you experience symptoms caused by fibroids, such as heavy or prolonged menstrual bleeding, pelvic pain or pressure, frequent urination, or difficulty conceiving. Myomectomy is an appropriate option for individuals who wish to preserve their fertility or maintain their uterus for personal reasons.

Pre-Procedure

A consultation with Dr Daniel Koh to confirm fibroid size and location and the recommended surgical technique, followed by pre-operative assessment.

During Procedure

Fibroids are removed while the uterus is preserved, using the chosen technique.

Post-Procedure

Hospital stay ranging from a day for minimally invasive procedures to a few days for open surgery. Some women notice changes to their menstrual cycle; fertility and future pregnancy plans can be discussed with Dr Daniel Koh at follow-up.

Recovery experiences can vary between individuals, and it’s important to follow your doctor’s post-operative instructions and seek medical advice if you have any specific concerns or complications during the recovery period.
